Botox for Incontinence

Effective Bladder Botox Therapy for Overactive Bladder and Urge Incontinence

Overview

Bladder Botox also known as intradetrusor onabotulinumtoxinA — is a highly effective and well-tolerated treatment for overactive bladder (OAB) and urge urinary incontinence in both men and women. Mr Sheikh performs bladder Botox injections at Lancashire as a straightforward day-case procedure, typically under local anaesthetic. The treatment works by relaxing the overactive detrusor muscle of the bladder wall, reducing involuntary bladder contractions and providing significant relief from urgency, frequency and urge incontinence — often for a period of six to twelve months.

Treatment Benefits

Patients are able to return home on the same day as the procedure. Most resume normal activities within 24–48 hours. A temporary increase in urinary frequency may be experienced in the first few days following treatment.
A urine culture is required before the procedure to exclude active infection. Patients are advised to arrive with a comfortably full bladder and are given full post-procedure instructions, including guidance on monitoring for urinary retention following the injection.
